Simona Halep is free to make a return to tennis after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) reduced her four-year ban for alleged doping.
The 32-year-old Romanian star was slapped with a suspension until 2026 in September after testing positive for a banned substance – Roxadustat – while irregularities were found in her Athlete Biological Passport (ABP).
Halep, who won Wimbledon in 2019 as well as the French Open six years ago, winning a total of 24 singles titles to date, has always denied any wrongdoing and appealed to CAS in order to get the ban overturned.
CAS have decided to reduce Halep’s suspension from four years to nine months, meaning that she is able to return to tennis with immediate effect due to the fact that she has already served a provisional ban since October 2022.
